FISC Kathy Craddock Burks Education Grant

I was recently awarded a grant from the Florida Invasive Species Council, and I wanted to make this organization so I could more efficiently carry out my project and continue this work in the future!

So, here’s a brief summary of what my upcoming project will look like.

As you can tell by the title, this grant is specifically for educational purposes. The grant committee seeks out applicants who are able to educate their local community on invasive species and their effects on the environment and ecosystem. My project will specifically focus on five non-native plants prevalent in South Florida: Rosary-pea, Carrotwood, Surinam cherry, Cogon grass, and Old world climbing fern. My project is also centered around my high school, where later in the year I will be putting up professional posters in order to raise awareness about invasive plant species. Finally, I will dedicate a portion of my funds to education for the wider public, including through festivals and farmers market.

I look forward to helping educate the community!
