Welcome to the first Invasive Species of the Month in 2024! Below are the January species:
Week of Sunday, January 7:

The tegu lizard is controlled through:
- the law/permits (it is prohibited to sell tegu lizards and current owners must apply for a permit & put a tracking chip on the lizards)
Week of Sunday, January 14:

The nile crocodile is managed through:
- prevention measures mostly
- capturing & monitoring programs
Week of Sunday, January 21:

Giant Hogweed is managed using:
- heavy grazing, hand-pulling (manual removal)
- herbicides
Week of Sunday, January 28:

The Varroa Mite is often controlled using:
- prevention (ex. screen floors)
- introduction of natural enemies (ex. pseudoscorpion)
- other methods, like fungal and bacterial control options, are being developed
